Directions

You can reach Burgas by various types of transport. The city has an international airport, a maritime station, train and bus stations. A highway links the city to the capital – Sofia. There are good road connections between Burgas and all other Bulgarian coastal cities. European Route No. 8, which is the shortest land link between the Adriatic and Black Sea Coasts, passes through Burgas.

Whichever way you choose to travel to Burgas – by plane, train, bus, car or sea, you can’t go wrong. One thing is sure – Burgas is closer than you can imagine and the trip here is definitely worth it.

Airports

Burgas Airport is approx. 10 km from Burgas city centre. You can get from the airport to the city centre by: Bus, Taxi or Rent-a-car.

The airport has a direct bus link to the city and from there it’s a 20 minute bus journey direct to the main Burgas bus station. The bus number travelling from the airport to the city is №: 15.

Rail

The Burgas Train Station is located in the city centre, immediately next to the main Bus Station and the Maritime Station.

There are trains to Burgas from all large and most of the smaller cities in Bulgaria. There are trains from and to Sofia throughout the day and night.

By Road

A highway connects Burgas with the largest cities in Bulgaria, city of Sofia and Plovdiv. You can reach Burgas from Sofia in about 3: 30 hours.

The trip from Varna (3rd largest city in the country) to Burgas is around 2 hours.

By Sea

Since October 2013 Burgas also has a Maritime Station which is located in the public access area of the Port. Passenger ships dock there; it has the capacity to dock large cruise ships. During the summer season a “comet” (hovercraft) travels from and to Burgas – on it you can reach Varna, Nessebar and Sozopol by sea. Port Burgas also has a yacht club, offering a safe marina for yachts and motor-launches; the quay is 6 meters deep. The availability of a crane and security allows land locking and longer periods of stay for yachts.

Public Transport

The city of Burgas has well-developed public transport. You can reach any part of the city within a maximum of 30 minutes.

A direct bus line (line 15) connects Burgas airport with the city center and the buses travel regularly every 15 minutes. The ticket price is 1, 30 leva, and for your convenience you can also buy an electronic card, which you can load with the number of trips you want. Once you check you card when you enter a bus, your e-ticket is valid for 45 minutes and you can use different public transport lines for this time.

Burgas Free University is right next to the Central bus stop, where almost all buses of the public transport stop.
